Darcy Street Festival & Huron Street Hall, Toronto, 1971.

Many thanks to for these photos. She says in part: " The Darcy Street festival was June '71 . . . . it was mostly a stage (with) music, but part of the street was closed off all day, so it was something of a block party too. Lots of the houses on that block were communes or shared houses and they organized the festival-block party. (I lived with friends) in a shared house at 19 Darcy St. -- which is the house in the background of the photo of the festival stage. We left 19 Darcy to found a real commune at 132 Carlton. "

Note: Dr. David Collins was an American expatriate who had had a private practice in Louisville, Kentucky. In Toronto he earned $100 per week from The Toronto Free Clinic. Known in the community as "Doctor Dave", he was one of the people who was instrumental in securing the Huron Street Hall building for a community centre.
