GRIFFITH FAMILY PHOTOS
Many thanks to Helen Wyse and to Rory Griffith
for these photographs.
In early October, 2005, I received an email from Rory Griffith who said in part:
"A fellow geneological hunter named Helen Wyse recently sent me a group of family photos
that no one could identify. What is known is they were passed down over generations. Helen
descends from Thomas Griffith (b. 1814) who married Margaret Lake. Thomas was the son of
Robert Griffith (b. 1776) who settled in the Beckwith area in 1822."
He also quoted Helen Wyse who said:
"These photos came from my grandmother, her mother, grandmother etc. They
obviously originally belonged to Margaret Lake/Leake and Thomas Griffith."
So far, there are 23 photos in this group, with more to come. The top one below is the only one which has all the people identified,
but id's are slowly being made and will be added to this page when received.
(Nov. 7, 2005: two people identified in the second Carleton Place photo).
As you will see, two of the photos were taken in studios in Carleton Place, and another in Renfrew.
Above are the children of Richard & Edith (Leach) Griffith who came west from Canada
in 1889 and settled north of Ritzville, Washington.
The row of women are L to R: Margaret [Margret] (Griffith) Sheppard (my Great Grandmother); Charity
(Unknown) Griffith, wife of Thomas Griffith; Annie Wall, wife of William Cook Griffith;
Jane Croswell, wife of George Griffith; Christina Croswell, wife of Joseph Griffith.
The row of men are L to R: Thomas Griffith; William C. Griffith;
George Griffith; Joseph Griffith.
Photo Above: Two people have been identified so far:
Third from left, back row is Annie Griffith (Blaney).
Far right, back row is Margaret (Maggie) Griffith Lowe.
Probably Cecil Ralph Griffith born in 1900 to George and Jane Croswell Griffith.
He enlisted in the US Army at age 18 in Spokane, Washington.
Can you provide names, corrections or comments?
