Lanark Heritage Preservation Society.
The group that is responsible for this website was formed in 2021 out of concern for the sad state of the old Kitten Mill,
which sat in the centre of Lanark Village. Once the prime employer in the village (if not the county) this magnificent heritage building was
completely neglected by its owner until most of the roof collapsed, and the village had to block the sidewalk next to it for public safety.
After a long and bitter battle, mostly on Facebook, and with the village council's hands seemingly tied, a demolition order was obtained,
and the building was demolished just before Christmas, 2023. The reasons for this happening are complex, but I think what all
people can agree on, is that everyone lost.
