LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA

Lethbridge, Alberta : School class, 1949.

Lethbridge Alberta school class of 36 students

Many thanks to Stephen Morse for sending me this image. His father, Barry Morse, stands at the far right in the 2nd row from the front.

In his email, Stephen said in part . . . .

"My Grandmother (Eileen) met a Canadian soldier (John) in England during the war. After the war she separated from my Grandfather (also John) and went to Canada to start a new life. The problem is that in those days she needed permission to take the children, but my Grandfather changed his mind. Once this happened they ended up in a detention centre and then deported back to England. My Grandmother never saw the Canadian soldier (John) again.

"My Grandmother later married an English guy (Allan Furrell) and lived happily well into her 80’s.

"My Dad’s sister, my late Aunt Angela, was also with them in Canada for that precious short time that my Dad always talked of fondly. However, If my Grandmother was not deported I wouldn’t be here so I have a different view!

"My Mother tracked down (the soldier) John via letters she found, but he had passed away so we only know of his grave and some details."
